MASSAGE THERAPIES

Therapeutic Remedial Massage and Myofascial Release Technique

Remedial Massage is one of the most effective and readily available ways to treat muscle injuries, muscular pain and stiffness.

Treatment employs Myo-fascial Release techniques and various degrees of pressure designed to treat both deep and superficial tissues.

Remedial massage can help to correct and normalise muscles and soft tissues.

It can help to reduce adhesion, break down scar tissue, reduce inflammation, and improve joint mobility and aid in the release of natural endorphins to help to relieve pain.

Home exercises may be given to practice between treatment sessions.  These may include exercises to stretch and improve mobility, exercises to build up strength in weakened muscles or proprioception exercises to improve balance and co-ordination.

Therapeutic Relaxation Massage

Stress related conditions can be just as detrimental to our health and wellbeing.

Stress can lower our immune response, it can cause symptoms of physical pain such as severe headaches.  It can cause insomnia which can then lead onto further feelings of stress and anxiety.  Therapeutic relaxation massage has both physical and mental benefits.

Sometimes it's not so easy to "Just relax".  Busy lifestyles, responsibilities and outside pressures can sometimes take over.  Being able to relax and let your mind release worries and tension can do wonders for your physical health.

When we are stressed, we are at our least creative.  Relaxing and taking time out can help to put some prospective back into our daily lives.

It's not just a "treat" - It's a need that our body, mind and spirit has in order to maintain the healthy equilibrium to support our immune health and overall wellbeing.

Pre-blended aromatherapy oils can be used to compliment the therapy.

Sports and Deep Tissue Massage

Sports Massage/Deep Tissue Massage is a combination of fundamental swedish massage and deep friction techniques used alongside other neuromuscular and muscle energy techniques and myofascial release, to contract and stretch the muscles, influencing different types of muscle fibre and correcting neurological pathways.

The benefits of Sports/Deep Tissue Massage include strengthening weak musculature, lengthening and correcting stiff tight muscles.  It helps to reduce excessive muscle tone and releases joint restriction.

This type of massage helps the muscles to recover quicker after training sessions, helps to improve strength and stamina and when used regularly can even help to prevent injuries from occurring.

Again, as with the Remedial massage treatments, home exercises may be given to practice between treatment sessions (see above).

Sports Massage and Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic massage with the benefit of Ultrasound Therapy aids in the healing and rehabilitation of soft tissue injuries such as tendonitis, muscular tears or strains, muscle spasm, ligament/tendon damage and restricted joint/muscular mobility.

Ultrasound has been clinically proven to increase healing time by up to 40%.

The low frequency sound waves emitted by the machine penetrate the damaged tissues and increase the action of the cells to remove damaged tissue cells and speed up the repair process.

"Mother to be" Massage

For 'Mother To Be' massage, I have a specially adapted body support cushion which comfortably supports the growing bump.  The cushion* is designed to support the body whilst allowing the bump to be free.  This is great for Mother and Baby because as well as alleviating the weight and stress on the body it also allows the baby more room to move around.  The endorphins released when Mum is relaxed, passes over to the baby therefore relaxing them as well.

*Please note the cushion is not suitable for all bumps...some are bigger than others.  The cushion normally supports bumps up to around 7 months.

Comfort is the most important consideration.  A massage chair may be the best option for larger bumps.

The skin nourishing oils I use during 'Mother To Be' massage have been safely blended for use during pregnancy and breast feeding.

Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapy

Manual Lymphatic Drainage or MLD is a very light, rythmical and precise massage technique that aims to stimulate and encourage the flow of lymph fluid through the body.

The Vodder Method was first developed by Dr. Emil Vodder and his wife Estrid in the 1930's.  The pair were pioneer's in the work and study of Lymphology and with the help of Gunther and Hildegarde Wittlinger, they devoted their lives to the continued development of the therapy which I practice today.

MLD is still the most effective treatment in controlling and managing Lymphoedema and other forms of Ideopathic Oedema.  In some case after surgical procedures, the lymphatic system may need extra help in clearing the swelling.  In these cases, MLD therapy alongside compression therapy can help to achieve full recovery of the swelling.

CDT/Combined Decongestive Therapy is a combination of the Dr. Vodder method of Manual Lymph Drainage, remedial exercise therapy, compression bandaging (or compression garments in the maintenance phase) and therapeutic skin care.

MLD for Pregnancy, Wellbeing  & Detoxification

MLD is used to help rid the body of toxins and excess fluid.  Used in preparation and in combination with fasting and nutritional detoxification, the therapy has wonderful health benefits, directly influencing the immune system and sympathetic nerve system.

MLD and IVF Treatment - MLD is recommended by fertility expert, Zita West before IVF treatment as a means of helping to detox the body.  MLD is also suitable throughout pregnancy.  It can help with relaxation and can help to reduce swelling and puffiness due to fluid retention and poor circulation.  It can also help to prevent stretch marks.

It is also extremely effective in reducing the effects of allergies and conditions such as sinusitis by assisting to calm irritation and reduce the inflammation thus reducing the uncomfort of swollen eyes and painful sinuses.

MLD can also be used to treat conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome to calm inflammation and irritation and I often use it in conjunction with remedial massage and ultrasound therapy to treat inflammatory condition such as frozen shoulder, tennis and golfer's elbow, bursitis and tendonitis.
